Gonçalo Guimarães Pereira
Gonçalo Amarante Guimarães Pereira holds a Bachelor´s Degree in Agricultural Engineer from the Federal University of Bahia in 1987, a master's degree in Genetics from ESALQ/USP (CNPq), PhD in Molecular Genetics from the University of Düsseldorf, Germany in 1994 (Konrad Adenauer Foundation) and post-doctoratal training in the Institute of Chemistry of the University of São Paulo (FAPESP). He is currently Full Professor at the State University of Campinas, which he joined in 1997, and CSO (Chief Scientific Officer) of the company GranBio, which is a co-founder. Since 1997 he coordinates the Genomics and Expression Laboratory, having mentored 56 master's and doctoral students and 6 PhD students. In GranBio, in addition to the action of corporate technology strategy, he coordinates the BioCelere company dedicated to developing high-yielding biomass and synthetic biology for the development of systems for the production of biofuels and biochemicals from second-generation sugar. Research Associate of the National Laboratory Bioscience (LNBIO/ABTLuz) of November 2009 to June 2012. His area of expertise includes genomics and biotechnology, bioinformatics and gene expression, acting in bioenergy projects, green petrochemical, witches’broom diseases, eucalyptus, coffee and soy, and coordinating some of the biggest research projects in the country in partnership with companies like International Paper, BRASKEM, ETH Bioenergia, Iharabras, as well as collaborations with the USDA-United States Department of Agriculture, University of North Carolina and the University of Colorado in the USA, University of Toulouse, CIRAD and Tropical Scientific Research Institute of Portugal. Holding 9 patents (2 of them, International) and 2 software records, 97 articles published in international journals of high impact, a large number of articles for dissemination in national dissemination vehicles, renowned as the newspapers Folha de Sao Paulo and Estado de Sao Paulo, Globo TV, among others. Throughout these years has captured significant volume of competitive resources for application in scientific and technological research. He was awarded several prizes, among them Scientific and Technological Merit of the Governo do Estado de São Paulo (21.02.2000) for participating in the Xylella genome project and featured in the journal Nature (edited 13.07); Honorable mention to the invention "Fermentation process using flocculant microrganisms". Award Governor of São Paulo State, 21.10.2000 and 2003 FINEP Award for Technological Innovation-Process Category; Inventors Prize Unicamp 2012 (INOVA/UNICAMP) in the category "licensed technology" technology process of identifying strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae based on molecular markers, deposited in INPI. In 2006 he received Diploma of recognition for the effective contribution to the development of Agriculture in Bahia, Bahia State Government and Honor the scientific merit of the graduate program in Genetics and Molecular Biology of IB/UNICAMP, ranked first by CAPES. Finally, he was featured in scientific production in the triennium 2004-2006.
